CHARLOTTETOWN – The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation held its annual Yuletide Gala Auction, raising $260,000 to fund the purchase of a therapeutic gastroscope for the Ambulatory Care Centre, two ultrasound stretchers, and the rest toward the purchase of a new CT Scanner for Diagnostic Imaging at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A sold out crowd was in attendance for this signature event, in its 21st year. Hosted by Kevin and Kathy Murphy of Murphy Hospitality Group, everything from the meal to the auction prizes were donated, allowing 100% of the revenue to the QEH Foundation.

RBC returned as presenting sponsor for the fourth year. “RBC is deeply committed to helping our communities,” says Janice McNutt Lanctin, RBC Regional Vice President, Eastern N.B. and P.E.I. “Ensuring that residents have access to the most up-to-date medical equipment is important to us and that is why we’re proud to return as presenting sponsor once again.”

This year’s event marks the completion of a five-year commitment from Kevin and Kathy Murphy. In 2014 the Murphys began hosting the Gala and were instrumental in doubling the event’s revenue by moving the location from the QEH cafeteria to the Prince Edward Island Brewing Co.

Total raised over the course of the night was $259,742 for medical equipment for the QEH.

“Kathy and I would like to thank everyone who has assisted in making this event a huge success,” says Kevin Murphy. “We are very honoured to have hosted and co-chaired this signature fundraising event. In the past five years, together, we have raised over $1.2 million dollars in direct support of priority medical equipment for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”

Murphy concluded his remarks stating “We are very fortunate to have the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in our community and the excellent health care that we have become accustomed to.  Let’s never take this for granted.”

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, management and staff of the QEH Foundation, physicians and staff of QEH, and all Islanders who benefit from the Gala, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Kevin and Kathy Murphy, the entire team at Murphy Hospitality Group, as well as volunteer committee members, Gala Sponsors, Friends, prize donors, and gala auction guests for their incredible generosity,” says Ed Lawlor, Chair of the QEH Foundation Board of Directors.

CBC’s Matt Rainnie was emcee for the evening, and Myles Enstrom was the auctioneer, provided by Parkdale Sherwood Lions Club.

The QEH Foundation gratefully acknowledges the heartfelt community effort that went into making this memorable evening a success.
