Support Mental Health Care at the QEH
Approximately 1 in 10 Islanders are experiencing a mental health and/or addictions challenge right now.
You can help.
With growing awareness and focus on mental health well-being, we are seeing a greater need for urgent mental health and addictions care in Prince Edward Island. To address these needed services, the PEI government is constructing and staffing a Mental Health & Addictions Emergency Department & Short Stay Unit (MHA ED/SSU) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
To support this transformative initiative and future initiatives that strengthen mental health and addictions care, the QEH Foundation created a designated Mental Health & Addictions Ignition Fund.
Mental Health & Addictions Ignition Fund
The QEH Foundation aims to assist in ensuring the QEH and health care staff are well-equipped to support this transformation in acute mental health care, and ensure that equipment and technology is never a barrier to quality mental health care.
As such, the QEH Foundation has established the Mental Health & Addictions Ignition Fund. Donations to this Fund will be used to fulfill our mission and prepare for the future of mental health and addictions care.

Mental Health & Addictions Emergency Department / Short Stay Unit at QEH
Construction is ongoing on the new Mental Health & Addictions Emergency Department/Short Stay Unit. The MHA ED/SSU will be co-located with the existing emergency department and will be operated and staffed by Mental Health and Addictions (MHA).
The service will provide emergency assessment, treatment, short-stay stabilization, support transition to service in the community, and support admission to an acute care bed when needed. The MHA ED/SSU will work closely with the MHA Mobile Response team and community health care to improve MHA emergency service, reduce wait times, and ensure Islanders have access to services closer to home.
The new MHA ED/SSU will also serve as a provincial hub for tele-psychiatry services.
