What the QEH/Eastlink Telethon is all about…

The 22nd annual QEH/Eastlink Telethon will broadcast live on Eastlink TV Channels 10 and 610 on Saturday, May 26th from 12 to 9 p.m. and will continue on Sunday, May 27th from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.  All proceeds raised throughout the weekend will be used to fund priority medical equipment for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“Throughout the weekend we look forward to hearing from Islanders from tip to tip, coming together to support PEI’s main referral hospital,” says Bob Sear, Chair of the QEH Foundation. “The Telethon is an opportunity to celebrate the culmination of fundraising initiatives over the past year that individuals, community groups and businesses have hosted in support of the QEH Foundation”.

The QEH/Eastlink Telethon raises funds for priority medical equipment…

This year, funds raised will support equipment for provincial stroke care, provincial laboratory, operating rooms and mental health initiatives, as well as other areas of the hospital. A valuable piece of equipment that the Telethon will support is a Mass Spectrometer. This device will allow for quality testing for prescription medications and illegal substances and offering timely test results, it has the potential to save lives. Funds will also go towards the purchase of a state-of-the-art urology laser will also be purchased, which aids in the breakdown of large kidney stones. Utilizing this equipment lessens the discomfort for patients often dealing with excruciating pain.

The QEH/Eastlink Telethon features grateful patients and inspiring stories…

Viewers will be introduced to some QEH patients including Harrison Maye, a young boy who has undergone cancer treatment; Maxine MacLennan, a well-known musician who recently required emergency care and rehabilitation and Sheldon O’Meara, a man who has dealt with health issues since childhood and considers the QEH a second home.
