‘Great Day’ Fore Health raising funds for QEH – June 4, 2019

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Rotary Club of Charlottetown Royalty, together with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, are getting ready to host new and returning teams and sponsors during the 16th Annual Harry MacLauchlan ‘Great Day’ Fore Health Memorial Golf Tournament, with Presenting Sponsor Fair Isle Ford, taking place on Wednesday, June 12 at Belvedere Golf Club.

This tournament is held each year in memory of Rotarian Harry MacLauchlan, and has raised over $650,000 for priority medical equipment at the QEH over the last 15 years. This year, the committee hopes to raise enough funds to support the purchase of two duodenoscopes for the endoscopy suite at the QEH. Duodenoscopes are used for non-invasive day surgery procedures to perform biopsies and other delicate treatments that help re-open bile and pancreatic ducts that have been closed by tumors, gallstones, inflammation, infection, or other conditions. During the procedure, a stent can also be inserted using the duodenoscope to help keep the duct open. These scopes cost approximately $35,000 each and is a Provincial service offered only at the QEH.

“Our committee of Rotarians looks forward to putting on this important fundraising event for the QEH every year,” says co-chair Mike Hennessey. “We are so grateful to the community support we receive every year, including from our presenting sponsor Fair Isle Ford, and other event sponsors Island Petroleum/Esso, Scotiabank, ScotiaMcLeod, Johnson Insurance, and Canadian Tire.”

Co-chair Jamie Currie says although the tournament has often seen a full complement of 36 teams, there is currently one spot open for a team to join in to compete against defending champions, MRSB Team.

“We are grateful to have the majority of our long-time supporting teams back with us again this year,” says Currie. “Many of the returning teams have been with us since the beginning of the event and are true contributors to the annual success. We also warmly welcome any new teams, sponsors, prize sponsors or hole sponsors that wish to show their support toward our Island hospital by participating in this ‘great day’.”
