Kathy Larter – Stratford, PEI

Kathy Larter 008Long-time QEH RN Kathy Larter had complete faith in her hospital after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

As a registered nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for more than 30 years, Stratford resident Kathy Larter was not as shocked as she thought she would be when she discovered she had breast cancer after detecting a lump. Surprised, nonetheless, Kathy had complete faith in her fellow healthcare professionals at the QEH.

Once diagnosed in March 2012, the experience of walking into the place that had become her second home changed drastically. As the Nurse Manager for Unit 4, Kathy went from taking care of mothers and their babies, to being the one taken care of. Even with her cancer diagnosis, Kathy considers herself one of the “lucky ones”, as she was able to receive all of her care here at home on PEI at the QEH. Between the Diagnostic Imaging Department, the QEH Operating Room, and the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre, she feels the care that she received was second to none. Kathy is grateful to all of her QEH family for being there for her in her time of need, and to the QEH Foundation for providing the state-of-the-art medical equipment, which many people may not realize.

Kathy is a long time supporter of the QEH Foundation and since 2007 has regularly donated to the Foundation through payroll deduction. As she discovered, “you never know when you might need the QEH.”
