Rachel Harper – Stratford, PEI

Rachel and Docs picture 012Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the expert staff at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, 28 year old Rachel Harper is alive to share her story.

In February 2012, Rachel received a shocking diagnosis upon arrival to the QEH Emergency Department. She was athletic, young, and in great physical shape. Having ignored chest pains, shortness of breath and tightness in her legs for too long, Rachel presented with all the signs and symptoms of a pulmonary embolism – a potentially deadly blockage of arteries in the lungs caused by blood clots.

With the quick action of QEH Emergency Physician, Dr. Joanne McGinn, and the attention of QEH Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Patrick Bergin, Rachel’s life-threatening condition was rapidly diagnosed and treated. Rachel and her family credit these QEH doctors and the nursing staff for saving her life.
